How DNA testing works
A detailed overview of the methods, data selection, and interpretation behind your genetic analysis.
What is nutrigenomics?
Nutrigenomics explores how your genes interact with nutrition, lifestyle, and the environment. By understanding these interactions, we can tailor food and lifestyle recommendations that align with your unique biology, helping you make targeted, evidence-based choices that support long-term wellbeing.
What can DNA testing reveal?
It provides deep insight into how your body processes nutrients, manages inflammation, detoxifies, regulates hormones, and maintains energy and mood. It helps identify where extra support may be needed, empowering you with a personalised blueprint for optimal health and prevention.
Is this the same as medical genetic testing?
No. Medical genetic testing looks for mutations linked to specific diseases. Nutrigenomic testing, on the other hand, looks at functional gene variations (known as SNPs) that influence how your body performs day to day. It does not diagnose disease; it helps optimise health through targeted nutrition and lifestyle strategies.
Will my genes change over time?
Your DNA remains constant throughout life. That means one test provides insights you can use forever. What can change is how your genes express themselves, and that’s where lifestyle, nutrition, and environment come in. This is the empowering science of epigenetics.
Is DNA testing relevant if I already eat healthily?
Yes. Even a balanced diet can be refined. Some individuals, for example, have higher needs for vitamin D, B12, or omega-3s based on their genetic makeup. Testing helps you tailor your diet for precision so every choice aligns with your biology.
Is nutrigenomic testing suitable for children?
Absolutely. Early insights can help parents understand their child’s nutritional, behavioural, and developmental needs, from energy, focus, and mood to immunity, digestion, and sleep. It is a proactive way to nurture resilience and wellbeing from the start.
Why test my child if they are healthy?
It is about optimisation, not illness. Understanding your child’s DNA can help you support their learning, growth, and emotional health more effectively. Think of it as a lifelong guide, offering clarity on how to nourish them best at every stage.
Is the test safe and non-invasive for children?
Yes. The test is completely non-invasive and done at home using a simple cheek swab. It is quick, painless, and suitable for all ages.
How do I take the test?
You will receive an at-home test kit containing clear instructions. It involves gently rubbing a sterile swab inside your cheek to collect cells. Once complete, you post the sample to the lab in the pre-paid envelope provided.
How accurate is the test?
Testing is carried out in an ISO-accredited UK laboratory using clinically validated methods. Each result is quality-checked and interpreted alongside evidence-based research to ensure scientific accuracy and clinical relevance.
What about data privacy and security?
Your DNA data is handled with strict confidentiality. The laboratory complies with GDPR standards and does not share, sell, or use your data for any third-party research. You remain the sole owner of your genetic information.
How long is my DNA sample stored?
LifeCode GX securely stores your DNA sample for six months from the time of testing. This allows you to add additional reports within that period without needing to purchase a new test kit.
Is this a replacement for blood tests or medical advice?
No. DNA testing complements, not replaces, conventional tests. It helps explain why certain results may occur and guides personalised strategies to improve future outcomes. Always consult your healthcare provider for medical conditions or treatments.
How long does it take to receive results?
Once your sample reaches the lab, results typically take three to four weeks. After analysis, we will book your consultation to review your personalised insights and discuss your tailored plan in detail.
How do I get started?
Simply book an introductory consultation. We will discuss your goals, whether testing is right for you or your child, and which DNA panels would be most valuable.
How many DNA panels can be tested, and how do I know which ones I need?
There are up to eleven DNA panels available, each exploring different areas of health such as nutrient metabolism, detoxification, hormones, mood, and nervous system function. During your consultation, we will discuss your health goals, family history, and priorities to determine which panels are most relevant for you or your child.
Can I test all eleven panels at once?
Yes. Many clients choose to test all eleven panels for a comprehensive, lifelong view of their biology. This provides clarity across all key systems, from energy and focus to hormones and detoxification. The full panel also includes extended consultation time to explore your results in depth.
Can DNA insights improve sports or academic performance?
Yes. Understanding genes related to energy, recovery, focus, and nutrient metabolism can help optimise performance, resilience, and concentration, both physically and mentally.
Do I need to retest in the future?
No. Your genes never change. You may, however, choose follow-up consultations to interpret new goals or health stages such as adolescence, pregnancy, or menopause, to adapt your plan accordingly.

How is the test delivered?
Your test kit is dispatched from the UK and typically arrives within two to four working days. Each kit includes step-by-step instructions and a pre-paid return envelope for UK clients.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. Test kits can be shipped internationally with tracked delivery. For clients outside the UK, the sample should be returned to the UK laboratory using your local standard postal service. No special courier or express service is required, as the sample is stored in a preservation fluid that keeps it stable during transit. Clear return instructions are provided with every kit to ensure a smooth process.
Can I complete the consultation remotely?
Yes. Consultations are conducted via secure online video calls, allowing both UK and international clients to receive full support and interpretation from anywhere in the world.
What happens after my results are ready?
Once your report is complete, you will receive a link to book your results consultation. Together, we will review your genetic insights and translate them into clear, actionable nutrition and lifestyle strategies.
Is ongoing support available?
Yes. You can book follow-up sessions at any stage to revisit goals, review progress, or adapt your plan as your needs evolve.
Can both parents be involved in the process?
Yes. Family testing provides deeper insight into shared genetic patterns. Many parents find it reassuring to see how traits connect, such as similarities in focus, digestion, or mood regulation, offering a more holistic view of family health.
What makes this service different from commercial DNA tests online?
Unlike generic kits, your results are interpreted by a qualified practitioner trained in functional nutrition and nutrigenomics. Each report is explained within the context of your family’s goals, ensuring that recommendations are both scientific and practical.
How to take your DNA sample (LifeCode GX)
1. Wait at least 1 hour before sampling Do not eat, drink, chew gum, smoke, or brush your teeth in that time. 2. Rinse your mouth Use plain water to rinse your mouth just before sampling. 3. Open the swab package carefully Remove the swab from its packaging by the handle, taking care not to touch the white swab tip. 4. Rub the swab inside your cheek Press firmly against the inner cheek (or under the lips), and rub continuously for 1 minute, applying steady pressure to collect enough cells. 5. Insert swab into the tube Place the swab (head first) into the collection tube without touching the swab tip. 6. Break the swab handle Snap the handle at the pre-defined groove so that the swab tip drops into the tube. Use scissors if needed. 7.Add the stabilising capsule Open the pouch, and drop the entire stabilising capsule into the tube with the swab (do not empty its contents). 8. Seal the tube securely Close the cap tightly to ensure the swab and stabiliser are sealed. 9. Complete the consent form Fill out and sign the consent form included in the kit — LifeCode cannot process your sample without it. 10. Return the package Place the sealed tube and signed consent form in the return envelope. Post it back to LifeCode. 11. Double-check before sending Confirm that you have included the stabilising capsule and the signed consent form.
